The Students of Retailing Excellence (STORE) is focused on the development of professional knowledge through extracurricular programs that enhance the viability of students. STORE membership consists of three levels with a completion capstone class.
STORE serves talented students interested in making retailing and related disciplines their career by offering them educational programs, opportunities to network with top retail executives and by providing students with an in-depth knowledge of retail and the retailing industry. As level 3 members of STORE ten students earned the privilege to attend the Shop.org Student Program in Seattle, WA September 28-30. Featured speakers included Jamie Nordstrom, president of stores, Nordstrom, who focused his presentation on pioneering the digital rush, the ways in which technology is changing how retailers do business and the impact this is having on careers in retail. A highlight of the program was the panel presentation accentuating career opportunities in retail composed of Ann Carrihill, manager of in stock, pets, Amazon.com; Mike Luu, Walmart eCommerce; Eleni Tavantzis, Lilly Pulitzer; and Allen Moore, product owner, Recreational Equipment, Inc. While in Seattle they also visited the Microsoft Innovation Lab and participated in the Shop.org career fair. Students sponsored for the event include Ian Rippl, Quan Feng, Rebecca Moix, Brianna Maldonado, Andrea Webster, Anna Bogan, Elizabeth Tanner, Maria Guzman, Yuhui “Micy” Liu, and Qili “Lily” Jin. STORE program advisor Synetra Hughes accompanied the students.
The Center for Retailing Excellence was privileged to sponsor seven (7) members of Students of Retailing Excellence (STORE) to the NRF Big Show 2014 in New York City. Students earned this privilege through their participation in learning programs designed to educate participants on the many opportunities within the retail sector. Congratulations to Ian Rippl, sophomore Finance major and Retail minor; Mike Blose, senior Finance major; Anna Bogan, sophomore Undeclared Business major; Quan Feng, junior Supply Chain major and Retail minor; Rebecca Moix, sophomore Finance major; Anita Walker, senior Marketing major; Angeline Hartono, senior Marketing major; and Andrea Webster, sophomore Information Systems major as the 2014 NRF Big Show representatives of the University of Arkansas.
Micy Liu, Alejandra Gonzalez, Jian Zhang, Lily Jin, Ian Rippl, and Angeline Hartono earned the privilege of attending the Saturday Morning Meeting at Walmart on November 16th as guests of Duncan Mac Naughton. Amid the business discussions and the celebrity appearances, students also learned how to roll on Saturday Mornings with Duncan Mac Naughton.
