Internship Opportunities

Wal-Mart Pre-Intern Program

Each year Wal-Mart Stores working through the Center for Retailing Excellence recruits students to participate in an unpaid week-long pre-internship program.  The program occurs over Spring Break and exposes students to the processes and culture of Wal-Mart.
Training is provided in merchandising, logistics, product development, retail link, and other areas critical to the success of potential Wal-Mart associates. The event is conducted through numerous sites including the corporate office, stores, a distribution center, the layout room, and includes a tour of Wal-Mart's consumer test labs. Each student job shadows in the area of their concentration before being given a project to complete.  Students present the results of their project to division managers at the end of the week and are then interviewed for the possibility of a paid internship over the summer.

Students must be a Junior, have a 3.0 cumulative GPA, and be eligible to work in the U.S. inorder to participate in the program. The application is available on the Center's website. Students must write and submit a proposal (one page or less) stating how this experience will be beneficial to them in reaching their career objectives and why this experience would be of importance in their personal goals. Applicants must also return a recommendation from a faculty member indicating the student is conscientious and deserving of this opportunity along with the student’s resume. Students submit your proposals and faculty recommendation to the Center for Retailing Excellence, Willard J. Walker Hall room 538.  The next opportunity for the Wal-Mart Pre-Intern Program will be Spring Break of 2009.
